Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Deputy Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities arrested Jonathan Cedeno, 21, of Paterson was arrested on December 2nd, in relation to a shooting incident that took place November 12th, in the area of 620 Main Street police charged Mr. Cedeno with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Aggravated Assault, Second Degree (2 counts); and Aggravated Assault, Fourth Degree (2 counts).
Accoridng to authorities, on November 12th at approximately 1:55 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson after being advised that a 21- year-old male Paterson resident was seeking treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim was in the area of 620 Main Street when the shooting took place.
A short time later a 27-year-old male Paterson resident sought treatment at the Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Based on the investigation it is believed that this victim’s injury occurred at the same time and location as the 21-year old Paterson resident who sought treatment at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center earlier that evening.
The sentencing exposure on Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves; on Second Degree Aggravated Assault it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of that term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act, three years parole supervision thereafter; and on Fourth Degree Aggravated Assault it is 18 months New Jersey State Prison with 18 months to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act.
Jonathan Cedeno is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on Saturday December 2nd at 1:30, p.m.
The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
