Passaic Police Shoots Armed Man Who Fired Shots in Neighborhood: Mayor

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Passaic Wednesday evening. 

According to Mayor Hector Carlos Lora, at approximately 6:29 p.m., Passaic Police received a call regarding a man shooting a gun in the area of Passaic Avenue on the street off of Lackawanna by our train station.

"Reports stating that the man shooting the gun in the area was confirmed, " Mayor Lora said.

Passaic Police officers arrived at the scene, engaged the shooter, and fired their service weapons.   

Mayor Lora said the suspect was struck and taken into custody. EMS transported the unidentified man transported to the hospital in stable condition. 

Mayor Lora said police recovered a weapon at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

"The immediate and heroic response of our Passaic police officer prevented any further injuries or tragedies. A resident was the first to call it in.

Her immediate concern and action aided our police tremendously in responding so quickly.

She, along with our police, are heroes and prevented any further injuries or tragedies," Mayor Lora said.
