Passaic County Jury Finds Garfield Resident Guilty of Multiple First-Degree Robberies

Passaic County officials reported that Jimmy German, 21, of Garfield, was found guilty after a jury trial before the Honorable Justine A. Niccollai, J.S.C.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said The State presented evidence at trial that on January 29, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., in the area of 21st Avenue and E. 22nd Street, in the City of Paterson, Mr. German robbed Mr. Angel Matos, 45, of his personal belongings including cash and two cell phones.  

Prosecutor Valdes said on January 29, 2021, at approximately 6:20 a.m., in the area of 6th Avenue and E. 19th Street, in Paterson, Mr. German robbed Mr. Juan Clase, 22, of his personal belongings, including his wallet and cell phone.  

Then on January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:10 a.m., in the area of 12th Avenue and E. 28th Street, Paterson, Mr. German robbed Mr. Julio Pujols, 59, of his personal belongings, including cash, food, and cell phone.  

In the final incident, Prosecutor Valdes said on January 31, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m., in the area of Liberty Street and Wayne Avenue, in Paterson, Mr. German robbed Mr. Irwin Ortiz, 31, of his personal belongings, including cash and cell phone.  

Mr. German was apprehended by Paterson Police on January 31, 2021, and was found to be in possession of a handgun.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, a selection commenced on January 24, 2023, and the trial started on February 8, 2023.  

Today, the jury returned guilty verdicts on first-degree Robbery, three (3) counts of second-degree Robbery, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and fourth-degree Unlawful Taking of Means of Conveyance.     

Mr. German’s sentencing is currently scheduled for March 31, 2023, in front of the Honorable Justine A. Niccollai, J.S.C. Senior Assistant Prosecutor Robert J. Wisse represented the State. Attorney Matthew J. Cavaliere, Esq, represented Mr. German.
