Two men have received lengthy prison terms for their roles in a July 2023 shooting that killed one man and wounded two others at an Asbury Park apartment complex.
Ziamere Ivery, 18, of Neptune Township, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter.
Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, he must serve 85 percent of that term before becoming eligible for parole.
Michael Sally, 21, of Long Branch, admitted to unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced to seven years, with a mandatory 42 months before parole eligibility under the state’s Graves Act.
The shooting happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. on July 3, 2023, at the Asbury Park Gardens apartments on Atlantic Avenue.
Police found three adult men with gunshot wounds; two were treated and released from Jersey Shore University Medical Center, while 21-year-old Lativity Lyons of Asbury Park died from his injuries.
A fourth intended target suffered a minor injury but did not seek treatment.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department led to charges against both defendants. Ivery, initially charged as a juvenile, was later waived up to adult court.
