Police in Newark are investigating separate overnight shootings that sent two people to the hospital in the city overnight.
A male victim is fighting for his life in University Hospital after being shot in the back several times on Dickerson Street according to reports.
Police were called to Dickerson Street between North 5th Street and North 6th Street after residents in the area heard as many as four shots fired shortly before midnight then several cars speed away from the scene.
Arriving police units located evidence that a shooting had occurred but they found reports said.
Hospital officials contacted authorities when a victim arrived at the hospital by private vehicle suffering gunshot wounds to the back.
The victim's injuries were reported to be serious as of early this morning.
Police are also looking into a shooting that occurred on Roseville Avenue a short time before the Dickerson Street shooting that had a male victim suffer non-life threatening injuries.
Both shootings are under investigation by Newark Police.
