Police in Newark are in their early stages of an investigation into a shooting that sent two people to the hospital after gunfire rang out in the city's South Ward overnight.
Reports of shots fired sent cops to the teens block of Stratford Place a little after 2 a.m. where officers located a male victim suffering injury from gunfire.
The man was transported to University Hospital where his injuries were non-fatal according to Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
A short time later, police received reports of an injured person in the 200 block of Hillside Avenue where officers arrived to the scene to find a male victim struck by apparent gunfire.
The victim was transported to University Hospital suffering a non-life threatening gunshot injury to the leg.
Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said that it is believed that the shootings are related and is investigating a motive for the shootings while cops search for the suspect/s who are responsible.
