Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a teenager injured in the city.
Gunfire erupted in the area of Frelinghuysen Ave. and Dayton Street at around 1 a.m. sending a large police response to the scene where they located the victim struck by gunfire in the 300 block of Dayton Street.
EMS arrived to the scene a short time later where they treated, then transported the victim (who was later reported to be around the age of 15-years-old) to University Hospital where he suffered an apparent gunshot injury to the knee/leg.
The victim's injury was not reported to be life threatening.
Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting.
