Authorities in Union County are investigating an overnight shooting that sent one person to the hospital in Elizabeth.
Reports of shots fired sent police to the area of Jackson Avenue and Julia Street before 2 a.m. where arriving officers found a 26-year-old man shot multiple times at that location according to reports.
The victim told police that as he was getting into his car, after exiting the store where he purchased cigarettes, he was injured by gunfire.
Police set up a crime scene where they searched the area for evidence and a possible suspect.
The extent of the victim's injuries were not released.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
The suspect reportedly in a small, gray or silver SUV, according to police.
