Overnight Gunfire Erupts in Orange, Newark Causing Heavy Police Activity

Overnight gunfire erupted in Orange and Newark sending several police units in to investigate. 

Police in Orange responded to the area of Hickory and Taylor Streets at around 9:30 p.m. where residents reported hearing between two to three rounds of loud gunfire in the area. "I grabbed my two children and ran for protection away from windows" a resident on Taylor Street said. Residents said that a dark colored vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after the shootings. Police searched the area for possible shell casings and other evidence. 

Over in Newark, gunfire sounds blasted through the area of the 1000 block of  South Orange Ave. near Salem Street at around 7:30 p.m. sending people scrambling for cover according to residents in an Newark online chat room. 

A resident who in-boxed said that he was startled by what sounded like gunfire while waiting for the 31 bus. "I didn't know what it was until I began to see people running, so I started to run" the man said. 

Police were seen searching the area for a possible crime scene.

There was one person possibly injured in the Newark  shooting.
