Overnight Gunfire Erupts in Newark's North, South Wards

Separate occurrences of gunfire that erupted in Newark's North and South Wards have police searching for suspects.

The first shooting happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 60's block of Woodside Avenue where police responded to several 911 calls reporting shots fired.

Fast responding officers arrived to find evidence that a shooting had occurred, but no victims were located.

Over in the city's South Ward, gunmen who were occupying a dark colored vehicle fired nearly a half dozen shots in the area of Hawthorne Avenue and Walcott Terrace at around midnight.

According to reports, a dark colored minivan with chrome wheels and NYC license plates arrived at the area and began shooting.

Newark Police officers responded and set up a crime scene where they searched for victims and other evidence.

There were no injuries immediately reported.

The overnight shootings happened during a time where Newark Police have made successful efforts in ridding city streets of weapons and suspects possessing them.

According to recent articles published on rlsmedia.com, through press releases sent by city officials, authorities have recorded seven (7) arrests of suspects who were found in possession of weapons in Newark within the past seven (7) days.

It is not clear if the shootings are connected.

Investigations into both shootings are active and ongoing.
