Overnight Gunfire Erupts on Newark South Ward Street; Injuries Reported

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect wanted for a shooting that injured one person on a South Ward Street overnight.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the vicinity of Lyons Avenue at Leslie Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. where a thorough search of the area had officers locate evidence that a shooting occurred but no victims were found according to authorities.

Shortly after the shooting incident, officials at the Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when a person walked into the hospital suffering a gunshot wound.

Police believe that gunfire struck the walk-in patient at the Lyons Avenue shooting scene.

Officers canvassing the crime scene found shell casings and other evidence to assist in a motive for the shooting.
