One person was transported to University Hospital after gunfire rang out in a Newark West Ward neighborhood overnight.
The incident happened in close proximity to the Vailsburg Park and in the vicinity of 27 Columbia Avenue shortly before midnight.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired where they arrived at the scene and found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the arm.
The shooting reportedly triggered a car crash where at least one other person suffered injuries according to reports.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
