Police in Newark are on the search for the suspect who fired shots in a Newark South Ward community that struck one person Friday night.
According to police, gunfire rang out n the 300 block of Hawthorne Avenue at approximately 7:50 p.m. where units arrived at the scene and immediately secured the scene after locating one person struck by bullets at that location.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries according to preliminary reports.
While police searched the area, units found a house struck by bullets but there were no other injuries reported.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
