One person was rushed to University Hospital after gunfire rang out in a Newark North Ward neighborhood during the overnight hours.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that occurred at around 12:45 a.m. in the 80's block of Davenport Avenue according to authorities.
Units arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred and an unidentified person suffering a non-life threatening bullet wound to the leg.
Police canvassing the area found several shell casings and other evidence at the scene.
Before the shooting, police say two vehicles were in the area driving erratically and believed occupants inside the vehicles were shooting at each other.
The motive for the incident remains under investigation by Newark Police.
