NPD-1 helicopter hovered over the scene of a shooting that sent multiple people to the hospital in Newark's Central Ward overnight.
According to preliminary reports, suspects produced a weapon, then fired off more than a dozen rounds at a cook-out that occurred in the vicinity of Mercer and Broome streets at approximately 10:30 p.m. sending police to the Central Ward community where officers immediately requested an aerial view of the scene after noticing injured victims at that location.
Police closed off the area after locating two victims suffering non-life threatening gunshot wounds according to preliminary reports.
At least one person was transported by private vehicle to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries could not be immediately confirmed as of 3:30 a.m.
Newark Police are actively investigating a motive for the shooting as the suspect remains at-large.
