Commuters across New Jersey faced a difficult start to the week Monday morning as a problem with overhead electrical wires owned by Amtrak caused major disruptions to NJ Transit rail service near Newark.

According to officials, trains traveling in and out of New York’s Penn Station were experiencing delays of up to an hour as crews worked to address the issue.
The incident resulted in at least one disabled train, prompting NJ Transit Police and emergency personnel to respond to assist stranded passengers.
A rescue train was dispatched to safely accommodate customers affected by the disruption, while transit police worked on scene to manage passenger movement and maintain safety.
To help ease the impact on commuters, NJ Transit rail tickets and passes were temporarily being accepted on PATH trains at Newark, Hoboken, and 33rd Street in Manhattan.
Officials encouraged riders to check for service updates and alternate travel options as delays continued through the morning rush.
Additional information on service changes and alternatives was made available through NJ Transit’s official channels.
