NJ Transit Bus Struck by Gunfire in Newark

Newark

Authorities are investigating a shooting that struck a bus in Newark on Monday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of 10th Street and 11th Ave. at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Arriving units located a NJ Transit #34 bus struck in the windshield by gunfire.

According to NJ Transit Officials, the bus was heading to the downtown area (South Street) carrying about 29 passengers with six of the passengers identified as young children during the time of the incident.

Officials said none of the passengers on the bus was injured but the female driver suffered minor injuries after she fell to the floor to avoid glass that shattered during the shooting.

Passengers were transferred to a waiting bus during the investigation.

Authorities believe that a physical fight between two men escalated in a shooting when one of the men returned to the area with a gun and began to chase, then fire rounds at the other man on 11th Street and 11th Ave.

Authorities believe one of the bullets during the altercation struck the bus.

A male victim was found on the street suffering a non-life threatening injury after being struck by gunfire according to authorities.
