An Atlantic City man has been sentenced to five and a half years in New Jersey State Prison after pleading guilty to possessing illegal drugs with the intent to distribute, according to authorities.
James Angelozzi, 42, was sentenced on Tuesday, July 21, before Superior Court Judge Christine Smith in Atlantic County.
The case stemmed from a September 8, 2023, traffic stop on the Atlantic City Expressway. According to authorities, Atlantic City police observed Angelozzi driving at a high rate of speed while weaving through traffic and changing lanes without signaling.
When officers activated their emergency lights, they reportedly saw Angelozzi toss a large duffel bag into the back seat of his vehicle.
After he consented to a search, officers discovered 110 wax folds containing a mixture of heroin, fentanyl, xylazine, and 4-ANPP, along with approximately 133 grams of cocaine.
Following his arrest, Angelozzi also consented to a search of his apartment and informed investigators that additional drugs were inside, authorities said.
Officers recovered 74 more wax folds containing the same drug mixture found in the vehicle, as well as another quantity of cocaine.
As part of the sentence, Angelozzi will serve five and a half years in state prison for the second-degree drug distribution conviction.
