Louis M. Verdesoto, 35, formerly of West New York, was sentenced on May 29 by Judge Robert M. Hanna following his guilty plea to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act (NERA), Verdesoto must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

According to Morris County authorities, the charges stem from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of May 26, 2024, at the Ramada by Wyndham hotel on Route 46 in Parsippany.

Investigators said a female hotel guest reported that an armed man entered her room, struck her in the face with a handgun, and then allowed a second unidentified suspect inside.

The two assailants allegedly duct-taped and zip-tied the victim to a chair while demanding money.

After obtaining cash, the suspects fled, leaving the victim bound inside the room. Authorities said the woman was eventually able to free herself and contact police.

She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple head injuries and facial lacerations.

A subsequent investigation led detectives to identify Verdesoto as a suspect. He was arrested on August 6, 2024, in West New York. During the arrest, investigators recovered a handgun and zip ties from his vehicle.

A search of his last known residence also uncovered clothing matching items seen in surveillance footage from the incident.
