Authorities in Guttenberg and West New York worked together early Friday morning to quickly apprehend a suspect accused of violently assaulting a man and stealing his scooter, according to information released by the Guttenberg Police Department.

On April 25, just after midnight, West New York Police officers encountered a man near 64th Street and Bergenline Avenue who reported he had been attacked and robbed a few blocks away, near 68th Street and Bergenline Avenue. Guttenberg Police officers immediately responded to assist.
When officers arrived, they found the victim with multiple visible injuries, including lacerations to his face and body.
The man also suffered the loss of part of a tooth as a result of the assault. As emergency medical personnel began treating the victim, police received a description of the suspect and the stolen scooter.
Shortly after, West New York Police detectives spotted a man matching the suspect’s description.
The individual was found in possession of a scooter and had visible bloodstains on his clothing.
After further investigation, including reviewing surveillance footage from the area and a positive identification by the victim, authorities arrested 36-year-old Ariel Sandoval-Paulino of North Bergen.
Sandoval-Paulino was taken into custody and transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for processing.
He faces charges related to robbery and disorderly conduct. Following his arrest, he was lodged at the Hudson County Correctional Center.
Guttenberg Police Chief Frank Pelaez praised the swift action of both agencies, noting that their coordinated efforts led to the prompt arrest of a violent suspect and helped bring justice to the injured victim.

“I would like to thank my officers for a job well done and acknowledge the efforts of the detectives and officers of the West New York Police Department for their assistance,” Chief Pelaez said. “Their quick response and teamwork were instrumental in apprehending an individual who caused serious harm to another person.”
