NJ Driver Seriously Injured After SUV Goes Airborne in Violent Garden State Parkway Crash

A driver suffered serious injuries following a violent single-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen County Saturday afternoon, according to preliminary information released by the New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded to the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway near milepost 167.8 in Washington Township at approximately 4:18 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.

 

The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a Toyota SUV lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway to the left, traveled through the grassy median, struck multiple trees, then became airborne before crashing into an upward-sloping embankment.

 

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

 

Authorities have not released the driver’s identity pending notification of family members.

 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the New Jersey State Police, and no additional information was immediately available.
