Newark City officials joined hundreds of residents for a special screening of Marvel's Black Panther Tuesday evening.
Mayor Ras J. Baraka joined acclaimed actor and Newark native Michael B. Jordan, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Newark International Film Festival, for the purple carpet affair that launched the special screening of the soon-to-be-released blockbuster movie, “Black Panther,” at the City Plex Theater in Newark's Central Ward.

Actor Michael B. Jordan designed the advance screening especially for a young audience, comprised of hundreds of participants from My Brother’s Keeper, the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, alma mater, Arts High.
According to a statement released by city officials, “Black Panther” is an upcoming 2018 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name.
The film is directed by African-American Director Ryan Coogler and is being considered as a defining moment for Black America because of the prominent African themes and positive images. It is a sequel to Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, and will also be the eighteenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the sixth installment of Phase Three.
The film is expected to debut in theaters around the nation on Thursday.
