Newark Woman Charged with Attempting to Steal Merchandise from Staples in Bloomfield

Police in Bloomfield took a Newark woman into custody and charged her with stealing items from a business in the Township Friday, February 24th. 

Bloomfield Police officials said officers responded to 135 Bloomfield Avenue (Staples) on a report of a shoplifting.

Upon arrival, according to the manager, an African American female walked into the store, took a tablet, and attempted to leave without paying.

Police said the tablet was valued at $150.00.

Officers apprehended the suspect, later identified as Ms. Ahtiyah Khayyam, 40, of Newark, on the scene.

Khayyam was transported to Bloomfield Police Headquarters, where officers processed her accordingly.
