East Hanover

Police in East Hanover took two women in custody after the pair allegedly shoplifted while leaving several children inside a hot vehicle on Saturday.

Police say Ms. Arlena T. Keye, 27, of Easton, Pa. and Shaday H. Williams, 27, of Newark, left four children in a car parked at the Marshall's parking lot and ventured in into the store to shoplift.

According to police, Keye is the mother of three of the children and Williams is the mother of one.

Police say Saturday's temperatures outside was around 90 degrees when the pair allegedly left the children, ages 7, 6, 5, and 11 months in the car for just under an hour.

The children did not suffer any injuries, and the incident was forwarded to NJ Children and Family Services.

Police charged both women with shoplifting, cruelty, and neglect of children, authorities said.
