Police are investigating a shooting that left a man injured in Newark's West Ward on Sunday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, officials at the University Hospital contacted police when a male victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound entered the emergency department at around 1:25 p.m.
Police arrived at the scene were informed by the victim that the shooting occurred in the 30's block of Columbia Avenue according to reports.
Doctors at the hospital treated the victim's hand injury while police set up a crime scene in the West Ward neighborhood to search for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
There were no arrests immediately reported.
