Police checked hospitals in the region for gunshot victims after a shooting in Newark's West ward Sunday night.
At approximately 9 p.m., gunfire erupted near 87 Norwood Street, sending police to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police officers found multiple shell casings, but no victims were located after cops checked the area.
Police credited a ShotSpotter device's activation for the alert.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
