Newark

Newark Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying several individuals wanted in connection with a violent robbery and shooting that occurred earlier this year.

According to information released by the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident happened at approximately 4:06 a.m. on April 4, 2026, in the 30 block of Empire Street.

The city’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system alerted officers to multiple rounds being fired.

When officers arrived, they recovered eight shell casings and located a victim who reported he had been assaulted and robbed but was not struck by gunfire.

Authorities said the victim was searching for his wallet when a man approached and demanded everything in his pockets.

After the victim refused and attempted to run away, several other individuals allegedly chased him, punching and kicking him during the assault.

During the attack, one suspect stole the victim’s key fob, and another allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired several shots in the victim’s direction. The victim was not hit.

The investigation remains active, and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking anyone who recognizes the individuals involved or has information about the incident to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS
