Newark South Ward Shots Fired Incident Under Investigation

Police in Newark collected several shell casings from the scene of a shooting that occurred in a neighborhood in the city's South Ward overnight.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the vicinity of 293 Hobson Street at around 2 a.m. where officers arrived and found evidence that a shooting happened but after a search of the area, officers did not find any victims according to preliminary reports.

Detectives are attempting to determine if a male that entered University Hospital's emergency room suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound was struck on Hobson Street.

In a separate shot fired incident, police were called to the teens block of Cypress Street after residents dialed 911 when they thought they heard gunfire then a dark colored vehicle sped from the scene.

Police arived then canvassed the scene but it is not imemdiately clear of they ever found any shell casings at that location.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
