Newark South Ward Shooting Under Investigation

Police in Newark are investigating shots fired incident that occurred Monday night in Newark's South Ward.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the South Ward community of Hansbury Avenue near Maple Avenue just before 9 p.m.

Units arriving at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred but no victims were located.

A search of the area had officers locate about a half dozen shell casings and a car struck by bullets according to preliminary reports.

A male victim reportedly walked into Newark's Beth Israel Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
