Newark South Ward Attempted Robbery Ends in Shots Fired, Injuries

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect who is wanted for a shots fired incident that connected on a person early Sunday morning in the city's South Ward.

According to preliminary reports, police on routine patrol in the area of Madison Avenue and South 18th Street were flagged down by witnesses who reported an injured person at approximately 2:45 a.m.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital by police where he suffered serious injuries according to reports.

Authorities believe that the suspect was attempting to rob the victim before gunfire rang out causing the victim to run from the scene.

Officers canvassed the area of South 18th Street and Clinton Avenue for a crime scene and evidence to support a motive for the incident.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
