Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that sent a male to the hospital this afternoon.
Gunfire erupted in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue at approximately 3 p.m. sending police to the scene where they found multiple shell casings and a vehicle struck by gunfire.
Police working the scene were later told that a male victim arrived at University Hospital suffering gunshot injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in a silver vehicle immediately after the shooting according to authorities.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
In a separate incident, police are investigating shots fired incident that occurred on Clinton Place this afternoon.
There were no serious injuries reported in that incident.
