Newark, Several Nonprofit Organizations to Donate 175 Google Chromebooks to Senior Residents

Newark

Newark city officials, the Victoria Foundation, and the South Ward Children’s Alliance will donate 175 Google Chromebooks to Newark seniors on Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m., at the Nellie Grier Senior Citizen Center.

The center is located at 98-104 Maple Avenue.

Officials said the technology became a critical tool in our lives during the Covid-19 pandemic, helping us to stay linked to family and friends, avoid isolation, and access essential services.

The South Ward Children’s Alliance is donating these surplus Chromebooks to senior citizens who do not have adequate access to technology to enable them to connect with Division of Recreation virtual programming for seniors, including music, exercise, and other classes.

Officials said the Chromebooks will have internet access.

The Victoria Foundation Technology Fund received support from The Hyde and Watson Foundation, the Colton Foundation, Audible, the Panasonic Foundation, and South Ward Children’s Alliance to support $1 million in technology needs for the Newark community.
