Newark Public Safety Officials Prepare Food Deliveries for Senior Residents

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose and members of the Newark Fire Division prepared dinners to be distributed to the City’s senior citizens this afternoon.

“I am thankful that the Department of Public Safety took the initiative to ensure that our seniors have a hot meal,” Mayor Baraka said. “With our shelter-in-place order in effect, our seniors can use a bit of additional support, and Newark firefighters are some of the best cooks around.”

“Recognizing that many older residents are afraid to go out and maybe sheltering alone, we felt that preparing and distributing these meals for them was the least we could do,” Director Ambrose said.

Under the leadership of Director Ambrose and Assistant Public Safety Director Raul Malave, Tour 3 of Newark Engine 7 prepared the meals for the senior meal distribution operation.

Fire Captain Claudio Dominguez was joined by firefighters Stephen Wolf, who cooked and packed the meals along with Firefighters Jorge Ramos and Brandon Aviles.

“I am grateful that our firefighters have the compassion and drive to serve our seniors with a tangible display of caring,” Assistant Director Malave said.

“All Newark Fire companies contributed to the meals and I applaud each for their generosity. They are the bravest and the best,” he added.

Members of the Fire Division’s Community Relations Unit are handling meal deliveries. One location scheduled to receive senior meals is 35 Van Vechten Street.
