Newark Portuguese Day Parade, Festival Expected to Cause Heavy Traffic, Detours in the Ironbound Section

June 10, 2016, starts the beginning of the three-day Portugal Street Festival ceremony.

Authorities are advising that dhring the festival, the below listed streets will be closed during the festival and parking will not be allowed.

• Ferry Street from NJ Railroad to Union Street

• Edison Street from NJ Railroad to Ferry Street

• Bruen Street from Ferry to Hamilton Street

• Niagara Street from Ferry to George Street

• McWhorter Street between Ferry Street and Hamilton Street

• Chambers between Ferry Street to Clover

• Madison Street between Downing and Market Street

• Ferry Street will be closed on Sunday to all vehicular traffic from approximately 1pm until 5pm to allow for a 5k run and the parade.

Expect traffic delays if traveling in the immediate area. Consider using alternative routes or mass transit if possible.

The Festival hours are:

Friday, June 10th from 5pm until 12am

Saturday, June 11th fr om 12pm until 12am

Sunday, June 12th, from 12pm until 10pm.

Additional Street closures on June 11th and 12th for events not related to the Portuguese Festival

Saturday, June 11th from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm - Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District; Sustainability Day

• Washington Street between Spruce Street and West Kinney

Saturday, June 11th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Great Oaks Charter School End of the School Year BBQ Event

• Crawford Street between Washington Street and Halsey Street

Sunday, June 12th; from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm - Fire Fighters event at Washington Park

• Washington Street between Central Avenue and Broad Street

• Washington Place between Broad Street and Washington Street
