Newark Police Seek Woman for Questioning in August 29 Shooting

Authorities in Newark are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a woman connected to an afternoon shooting in the city’s Riverside Court neighborhood.

According to a statement released by the Newark Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Friday, August 29, following several calls reporting shots fired near Riverside Court and McCarter Highway. 

 

Responding units found four spent shell casings along with evidence of property damage caused by gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

 

Detectives are now looking to question Janay Ellis, 33, in connection with the investigation. 

 

Ellis is described as having a light brown complexion, standing 5’5” tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

 

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., is urging anyone who may know the whereabouts of Ellis to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
