Newark Police Seek Man for Questioning in South Ward Shooting

Authorities in Newark are asking for the public’s help in locating a city resident wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that left a man seriously injured last week.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., investigators are searching for Mr. Rodney R. Oneal, of Newark, following a shooting that occurred on the night of April 19, 2025, in the 400 block of Chancellor Avenue.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:25 p.m. and discovered three shell casings and a trail of blood extending to Schley Street. 

A short time later, police learned that the shooting victim had already been transported to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in a grey 2017 Chrysler Pacifica bearing New Jersey license plate B64VNT.

The vehicle is registered to Oneal, who is described as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 230 pounds. 

The victim, who was dropped off at the hospital, had suffered seven gunshot wounds, including injuries to his legs and wrist, and was immediately treated by medical staff.

As of now, Oneal is wanted solely for questioning, and no charges have been announced.

 The shooting remains under active investigation.
