Newark Police Officer Hospitalized After Suffering Heart Attack on Duty

A Newark Police officer was hospitalized at University Hospital on Saturday evening following a heart attack while on duty in the city's South Ward.

The incident occurred around 7 PM at an address in the 500 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard near Belmont Terrace. 

Emergency calls about an officer down prompted a rapid response from several police units and EMS. 

Upon arrival, responders found the officer unconscious and immediately administered necessary medical attention.

Under police escort, reports say the officer was quickly transported to the hospital, where medical staff successfully revived him. 

The officer is now conscious, alert and stable. 

Further details about the incident or the officer's condition have not been disclosed at this time.
