Newark Police Issue Warrant for Suspect in Auto Burglary and Assault on Officer

Newark police are actively searching for Mr. Eddie Price, 51, of East Orange, following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest in connection with an auto burglary and subsequent assault on a law enforcement officer.AdThe burglary occurred on January 19, with the assault taking place ten days later on January 29, 2024.

The series of events began when a victim reported her vehicle burglarized on the 200 block of Springfield Avenue around 11:10 a.m. on January 19.

The assailant broke the front passenger side window, making off with a purse containing cash, credit cards, a debit card, and other personal items.

The stolen debit card was later used in two stores before being declined at a third.

The investigation led detectives to spot Eddie Price in a stolen vehicle on the 300 block of 17th Avenue in Irvington on January 29. Upon noticing the police, Price fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase that extended onto the Garden State Parkway.AdIn a bold attempt to evade capture, police said Price's vehicle stopped in the parkway's far-left lane, reversed into a pursuing Newark Police vehicle, and then Price fled on foot into East Orange.

He is described as being 5'9" tall and weighing 180 pounds.

Director Fragé is calling on the public to assist in locating Price. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

The police assure that all tips received through the anonymous Crime Stopper service are kept confidential and could lead to a reward for valuable information leading to Price's arrest.
