Newark Police Investigating Stabbing Reports Find Man Shot Near Georgia King Village

A shooting that erupted near a supermarket and chicken shack establishments in Newark has police on the search for the suspect responsible for the gunfire that sent one person to the hospital.

According to preliminary reports, Newark Police officers were in a building on West Market Street and Littleton Avenue investigating reports of a person stabbed when they heard multiple rounds of gunfire blast-off then the sounds of screaming from a potential victim outside.

Officer radioed dispatch for assistance then rushed out of the building to find a male victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds near Central Avenue and 4th Street according to preliminary reports.

Fast responding EMS units rushed the severely injured victim the short distance to University Hospital where doctors began to treat the unidentified patient.

Police taped off a large portion of the area where they redirected traffic while detectives collected evidence and launched their investigation.

This shooting marks **-at least-** the 3rd instance of gunfire where victims were wounded in less than 12 hours across the city according to officials.

We will update all the incidents at around noon today -Friday- including one that occurred on Wright Street on Thursday evening.

**UPDATE 10:10am** There were two victims. One non-life threatening while the other critical injuries.

The motive for the shootings has yet to be determined.
