Newark Police Investigate Shooting that Caused Injuries to Woman

EMS transported a female victim to University Hospital late last night after gunfire erupted in a neighborhood in the city.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of Fairmount Avenue at around 10 p.m. where they arrived to the scene to find a female victim shot at that location.

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries to the leg and was taken to the hospital conscious and alert according to reports.

A short time later, officials at the Newark Beth Israel Hospital contacted police after a male victim was transported by private vehicle to the hospital suffering a gunshot wound.

It is not clear if the walk-in gunshot victim was shot on Fairmont Avenue.

Police are investigating the motive behind both shootings.

There were no arrests made.

**NOTE:** Police responded to the 200 block of Rose Street shortly after 1 a.m. to investigate reports of shots fired.

Arriving officers found several shell casings but no victims were found.
