Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a man injured in the city’s North Ward on Monday evening.
The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. when officials at University Hospital notified police that a male victim had arrived at the emergency department suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers responded to the hospital and were directed to the area of Park Avenue and North 4th Avenue , where investigators believe the shooting occurred.
Police established a crime scene in the neighborhood and began searching for evidence related to the shooting. 
Detectives canvassed the area as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim’s condition was not immediately available Monday night.
Authorities have not released information regarding a possible suspect or motive. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
