Newark Police Arrest Edison Man for Shooting 15-Year-Old Girl in Newark

Police in Newark announced the arrest of Keyon Coleman, 19, of Edison, in connection with a shooting on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.

Authorities said Coleman was being sought by detectives after he was identified as a suspect in the October shooting and a $100,000 warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday night shortly before 9p.m., detectives from the Police Division’s Special Investigation Division spotted Coleman in an Eagle Parkway residence.

With the assistance of personnel from the Department’s Emergency Operations Division, the officers gained entry into the residence and arrested Coleman without further incidence.

Coleman is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of weapon for unlawful purposes. ​

According to authorities, on October 25th at approximately 8:15 p.m., Newark Police responded to the area of Eagles Parkway and Lincoln Street on a call of shots fired.

A 15-year old female victim was shot.

She was transported to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police also located a 17-year old male victim who had run onto Broome Street after being shot.

He was also transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Two other victims were shot at during this incident, but were not injured.

Director Ambrose commended the members of the Special Investigation’s Bureau whose attentiveness and attention to detail led to Coleman’s arrest.

They recognized him and quickly took the actions necessary to secure his arrest.
