Newark Officials Offer Heartfelt Farewell to Special Police Officer Furr Following Today's Funeral

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose offer a sad and heartfelt farewell to Special Police Officer Tolbert A. Furr, 59, of Newark, who passed away on April 3, 2020 at Clara Maass Medical Center due to Coronavirus complications, according to his family.

In a statement officials released the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that the City of Newark bids farewell to an officer who served for 25 years,” Mayor Baraka said. “This loss touches us all.”

“On behalf of the entire Department of Public Safety, Chief of Police Darnell Henry and I offer a final salute to Special Officer Furr as he is laid to rest today,” Director Ambrose said.

“His service to this city will never be forgotten. COVID-19 robbed us of a great man. Our deepest condolences continue to be extended to his family.”
