Police in Newark's North Ward are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in that section of the city during the overnight hours.
According to authorities, hospitals in the region were placed on alert for potential walk-in victims after gunfire rang in the 500 block of Broadway around 12:20 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene found evidence that a shooting occurred but after they searched the area, no victims were found.
Police say several shell casings were discovered during officer's canvas of the neighborhood.
The suspect fled the scene and is at-large.
