Police in Newark checked a North Ward neighborhood for a crime scene after a shooting had victims enter a hospital in the Monday night.
According to preliminary reports, officials at the University Hospital contacted police when two victims suffering gunshot wounds were transported by private vehicle to the hospital before 10 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound to the arm while the other victim was struck in the stomach by gunfire reports said. Bullets penetrated the vehicle that the victims were occupying.
Several officers searched the area Bloomfield Avenue near Garside St. and Summer Avenue for shell casings, but it is not immediately clear if anything was found.
The extent of the victim's injuries were only confirmed as non-fatal as of Tuesday evening with the victim struck to the stomach in critical condition.
There is an active investigation underway.
