A 45-year-old Newark native was among the victims killed in the Charleston, S.C. church.
Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church's assistant pastor, Sharonda Coleman, was among the nine fatal victims.
Singleton who up in Newark later graduating from Vailsburg High School in 1987, according to her Facebook page.
She was survived by a daughter and two sons.
