A Newark man will spend more than two decades in state prison for the 2021 death of a woman who was killed after prosecutors said he drove away with her on the hood of his vehicle in Irvington.
Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced that Lando Marc, 34, of Newark, was sentenced to 21 years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with the death of Jenny Philistin, 27, of Elizabeth.
A jury convicted Marc on December 18, 2025, of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and related offenses.
According to prosecutors, Irvington police responded on December 9, 2021, to a report of a domestic violence incident during a social gathering at a residence on Stuyvesant Avenue.
As officers approached, Marc attempted to leave in his vehicle. Prosecutors said Philistin followed him and jumped onto the hood of the parked car in an effort to stop him from driving away.
Authorities said Marc then sped off with Philistin on the hood, ran a stop sign, drove the wrong way down a one-way street, and eventually lost control before crashing into a parked car. Philistin was killed in the crash.
Marc fled the scene and remained at large for more than a month before surrendering to authorities on January 14, 2022.
