Newark Man Convicted of Drugs and Resisting Arrest

Newark

Newark — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today that an Essex County jury has convicted Dashon Ross, 34, of Newark of third degree possession of heroin and resisting arrest by fleeing following a trial before the Honorable Nancy Sivilli, Judge of the Superior Court.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Donato D’Angelo, who tried the case, on Feb. 26, 2016, Ross attempted to prevent New Jersey State Troopers from placing him under arrest after troopers approached him for questioning regarding the possession of a handgun inside the Super Plaza bodega located at 408 Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.

After a brief foot pursuit, the troopers apprehended Ross and found 27 wax folds of heroin in his possession.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2019, before Judge Sivilli. Ross faces a discretionary extended term of up to 10 years in State Prison. He has 6 prior felony convictions for drugs, guns, and resisting arrest.

“This outcome was made possible by the extraordinary work of Troopers Michael Savnik, Joshua Morrison, and Tommy Kelshaw of the New Jersey State Police.” Assistant Prosecutor D’Angelo said.
