Newark Man Arrested for North Ward Shooting

Newark

Police officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. David Vidal, 18, of Newark, who was apprehended September 27, for an aggravated assault shooting that took place a week earlier.

Police say Vidal was arrested at approximately 7:50 p.m. near Cutler and Crane streets after officers recognized that he was the same suspect captured on surveillance video in a shooting that occurred in the same neighborhood on September 21, 2020.

In that incident, which happened around 5:30 p.m., Vidal fired several shots at an individual who exited a dark colored vehicle at Cutler Street and began to shout at him.

Police say when officers spotted Vidal a week later on September 21, 2020, he ran and discarded a weapon that officers recovered following his arrest.

Vidal was charged with several offenses, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, possession of Hollow point bullets and a large capacity magazine.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
