Newark Man Arrested in Connection with Elizabeth Shooting

A Newark man who police say opened fire outside a fried chicken restaurant, injuring a person, was arrested Sunday.

An investigation into the November shooting, led to aggravated assault and various weapons charges against Junior Abreu, 29, of Newark.

According to police, on Nov. 29, police responded to US Fried Chicken on Magnolia Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police found a 43-year-old Elizabeth man (bystander) suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. According to the victim, he was exiting the restaurant as a fight broke out in the parking lot resulting in shots fired.

The gunmen was not found during the initial search of the area. However, Sunday around 3 p.m. police located Abreu on Port Avenue in Elizabeth.

He was arrested and is currently awaiting transfer to the Union County Jail.
